
Lieutenant Angela Kwan
Angela Kwan is a Lieutenant with the Phoenix Police Department. During her 17 years of service, she has worked as patrol officer, field training officer, bike patrol, recruit training officer, tactical training officer, proficiency skills sergeant, basic training sergeant; she is currently a lieutenant assigned to the Homeland Defense Bureau. Lt. Kwan received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Grand Canyon University and her Master's Degree from the University of Phoenix.
Lt. Kwan also serves as the Chairperson for the Subject Matter Expert Committee on Physical Fitness. This committee is a part of the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board, which governs and certifies all peace officers in the State of Arizona. She also sits on the Phoenix Police Department's Physical Fitness Committee.
Lt. Kwan's instructor training background includes physical fitness, defensive tactics, high risk stops, firearms, tactical driving, and general instructor. She teaches both at the basic and advanced officer training level. In addition, she recently completed the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) Leadership in Police Organizations instructor course. This course is designed after the Westpoint Leadership principle and will prove to be the new direction of leadership in the State of Arizona.
When Angela isn't busy working or teaching she likes to stay in shape, especially by enjoying one of her favorite activities, running. Angela admits that prior to becoming a police officer, she actually disliked running. After 14 weeks of running in the Academy and 18 pounds lighter, she became a believer in the sport's benefit. In addition to running, she hikes and cycles. Her most recent endeavors was a Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike (22 miles in one day) and a 3-day, 250 mile bike ride in the Police Unity Tour.
