Welcome letter!
On behalf of Rio Salado College administrators and faculty, I warmly welcome you to the new English as a Second Language (ESL) Program.
Our new online program is designed to teach reading, writing, and grammar skills to students who have the desire to learn English but cannot access the traditional “in-person” classroom. Whether working full time, caring for children at home, or lacking transportation, this program opens the door for many individuals who may have faced barriers in the past.
We are pleased to announce that students from all over the world can now learn English anytime, anywhere. As long as students have access to the Internet, Rio’s e-learning model can benefit students here in the United States and abroad. For our local students who do not have access to a computer, the college has open computer labs in Sun City, Tempe, Paradise Valley and Mesa. These free computer labs are open in the evenings and on weekends.
Our courses, that build on prior knowledge as students move from one lesson to the next, give students an opportunity to learn, practice, and review content through unique, interactive, and engaging activities, games, quizzes, and writing assignments. Audio and video components have been added to some courses to enhance the learner’s experience.
It is important to note that Rio faculty with expertise in ESL instruction have designed these courses which cater specifically to the ESL population. Our goal is to ensure that ESL students have a successful learning experience in which they leave each course with more knowledge and confidence in their English language skills.
Best Regards,
Dr. Betsy Frank
Rio Salado English Faculty Chair
