English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

No matter what level your English skills are at, Rio Salado College has a class to help you learn English at your own pace.  Rio Salado offers free, non-credit classes for legal residents wanting to improve their English skills.  The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program has six different levels of instruction and requires no prior English instruction or testing.  Students at all levels of English comprehension can take these in-person classes.  Computer labs are available for ESOL students at locations throughout the Valley.

ESOL programs, also referred to as English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA), provide a vital service to many Arizona residents. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, 162,469 adults, or five percent of the total Maricopa County population, speak English ‘not well’ or ‘not at all.’ Rio Salado’s free ESOL classes help individuals focus on listening, reading, speaking and writing the English language.
